Police and immigration officers raid site in Bexhill, brick deliveries surge in September and an electrician sends local boxers to do battle in Sweden
An immigration raid carried out last week found illegal workers on a Vistry building site.
Sussex Police and Home Office immigration enforcement officers visited the job in Bexhill where they detained 17 men of Albanian, Georgian and Indian nationalities deemed to be working illegally.
A civil penalty referral notice was issued to the employer with possible fines of up to £60,000 per worker if they’re found to have been employed illegally.
Earlier this month, the government said it would extend ‘right to work’ checks to include self-employed subcontractors in a further effort to crackdown on illegal migrants and rogue employers.
