HSE to look into fatal fall of Gogglebox star, George Gilbey, builder forced to wait for another year for planning permission and over 60% of homeowners offer tradespeople a cuppa

The Health and Safety Executive is to take over the investigation into the death of self-employed electrician, and former Gogglebox star, George Gilbey.

Gilbey was working in Shoeburyness, in March 2024, when he fell through a plastic skylight. Two men were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter but were released without charge.

HSE Inspector Natalie Prince said its investigation will establish “if there have been any breaches of health and safety law”.

A builder attempting to restore a run-down Buckinghamshire pub, claims that planning delays are jeopardising the whole project.

Nick Webb of Prism Construction has spent more than £1 million on the White Lion pub in Marsworth, since purchasing the property earlier this year.

The planning saga around the property dates back to 2021, when the previous owner applied for permission to convert the building into two homes.

Council planners were due to meet this month but have since told Webb he will not get planning permission until next year.

The average homeowner offers a tradesperson three cups of tea a day — that’s according to a survey of 2,000 adults by Virgin Money.

In the poll nearly two thirds of homeowners claimed they always offered a drink to a visiting tradie, while 18% were more selective.

Nearly a fifth of respondents admitted they never brought out the biscuits.
