Record-breaking summer drives demand for A/C services, MCS made sole certification body for clean heat and Prince and Princess of Wales throw party for tradespeople
The UK’s record-breaking summer drove demand for air conditioning up by over 60% between July and September -— that’s according to data from Checkatrade.
The directory website also estimates that 58% of plumbing, heating and A/C firms are looking to hire more staff and expand.
This summer the UK experienced record average temperatures.
After the unseasonable warm summer, demand for central heating maintenance work has dropped by 16%.
Jambu Palaniappan, CEO at Checkatrade, said he could see demand for A/C services “rise significantly,” as the country continued to experience hot weather.

The government intends to make MCS the sole certification body for clean heat measures, including the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, Energy Company Obligation programme and the Clean Heat Market Mechanism.
Over the last two decades, MCS approved over 2.2 million installations and its certified nearly 6,000 engineers.
In a statement, the charity-owned company said it was “solely focused on improving quality and consumer protection for the greater good of the sector.”
