AUDIO NEWS: Construction output falls in August, police recover tools and a film crew repairs potholes

Construction output falls in August, police in North Wales recover stolen tools and Harry Potter TV crew repair potholes

Government figures show that construction output dropped by 0.3% in August.

The fall, which came from a 1.5% decline in repair and maintenance work, disguised a small increase in the volume of new work.

The construction industry is straggling behind the wider economy, which grew by 0.1% in August.

Dr David Crosthwaite, chief economist at Building Cost Information Service said, “uncertainties over next month’s budget have shown up in the data for construction output.”

Police in North Wales have managed to recover a horde of stolen tools and return them to their owner.

Acting on information from the public, officers in the North Flintshire team found the tools and returned them when the theft was reported. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

A spokesperson for police said “We wish all of these incidents could end like this but we know they don’t, and that traders are having to work extremely hard to keep their tools safe.”

The film crew for the new Harry Potter TV series have been repairing potholes for a small village in Devon.

The parish council for Lustleigh announced on Facebook that Devon County Council had given the film company permission to make repairs in the local area.

Responding to the council’s post, one resident suggested that ‘Harry Potter and the Potholes’ would make a great title for a new book.
