The government has drawn-up plans to offer bricklayers and carpenters temporary work visas.
The Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) released a white paper last week with 82 -below degree level jobs that are judged to be “key to the industrial strategy or delivering critical infrastructure.”
If approved the list is designed to be narrow in scope.
The white paper also outlined ideas to reduce reliance on overseas recruitment and prioritise training of British citizens.

Two builders working in a churchyard in Yorkshire have sparked a police investigation after discovering a plastic bag containing human remains.
Police officers sealed off a 50-metre area outside the cemetery at St Wilfred’s Parish Church in Doncaster.
The two workers were clearing some undergrowth with a digger to install a wooden fence when they made the grim discovery.
One of the workers told the Mirror, it was like “someone had chucked the bones behind the wall and put some grass and soil over them to hide it.”
